Seasons

The weather is so unusually warm and delightful Jane took us outside painting today.  We were introduced to a new palette – the prismatic which uses the bright yellow, ultramarine blue, bright red, and white.  We were told to utilize impressionistic techniques and to spend most of our time mixing colors before putting anything on canvas.  I finally got to use my palette knife and flail away with color.  I’ll put in some highlights on this in the studio when it dries a bit, but this is what fell off my brush today. The windmill of my mind

I lied yesterday.  It was beautiful, sunny, and crisp with a forecast of continued sun and cool temps.  However, about 5 the clouds mounded on the horizon and the rain started falling in fits and starts.  Then the wind blew in – and blew and blew and is still blowing.  Come to find out that the Cycladic islands are the root for the word Cyclone as this is where the northern wind streams from Europe battle out with the southern rising from Africa.  It is now 80 and humid so Africa is winning.  TWC says tomorrow and the rest of the week will be lovely with the northerly breezes caressing us more gently.  Who knows.  Continue reading “The windmill of my mind”

School entrance

At last!  The ferry arrived just before noon on Saturday – more like a cruise ship actually.  Semis and a concrete truck and a helicopter were part of the cargo along with many heading to Paros or Naxos or Santorini.  Once docked, there was a grand rush of humanity and luggage to our awaiting home.  We passed the school on the way to our homes.  We were back later for a brief orientation, but we were free until this morning at 10.  Oh the joys of finally unpacking, quiet, and nesting. Rebalancing

Heart of the villa

It’s Sunday, but it doesn’t feel like it.  Last week was rainy and totally free – perfect for turning inward.  This week we have had classes all day and it is downright gorgeous outside.  There is a festival going on just outside the villa, so the noise is reverberating around the valley – preventing that most sacred of customs, the Sunday nap.  The classes have been a continuation of challenging our perspectives, literally and figuratively.  I’m going to expand on that as I listen to the water soothing and smoothing the atmosphere in my body and soul. Sunday musings

First water color sketch

What a perfect Sunday.  I woke to hazy sunshine which morphed to clouds during the time it took to shower and cleanse my being.  Now it is raining very quietly over the villa and the valley.  Quiet, slow, and soothing – the best way to do sabbath.
