Preparation for the mind

Besides making reservations, worrying about what clothes to bring along, and planning my financial solvency, I have been making peace with bigger assignments.   The Center sent along a two page single-spaced list of recommended books to prepare the mind and soul for this Fall Semester.  I have no angst about getting my body back and forth from here to the Mediterranean through several seasons of outfits.  It turns out I have fears about getting my mind back in shape after 40+ years away from college.  Continue reading “Preparation for the mind”

Pondering Preparation

Preparing has been my focus for the past few weeks.  It’s not easy to plan for four months at a time.  Normally I am lucky to look a week out on my calendar.  It occured to me this morning as I looked at the word prepare, it literally means (pre) before (pare) cutting or trimming.  Continue reading “Pondering Preparation”

Now the preparation begins

Egads!  I never realized the thinking that was going to be required in order to go away for 4 months.  Every part of my daily life has to be thought about and either deleted, transferred or postponed.  This mornings examples:  going out to pick up the paper, preparing a cup of tea and cereal, and noticing the flower pot from my window.  I have to delete the  box of cereal so the cupboard is bare when I leave; I have to postpone the subscription to the newspaper; I have to ignore the flowers because I am leaving them to a premature death; and I have to bring with me my Yorkshire Gold tea, just because.
